The West Essex Regional High School Green Team is pleased to announce that we have been chosen for the 2020 Sustainable Jersey for Schools Grant funded by the PSEG Foundation in the amount of $2,000. As the ever-changing environment and climate increasingly become a topic of concern around the globe, West Essex quickly realized the increasing value of sustainability. In 2019, we launched our Green Team initiative with members from the student body to the upper administration. While covid-19 temporarily put many of our plans to the side, the STEM club and green team continued to work on a plan to install an outdoor classroom on the school campus. The goal is to connect students with nature and provide a green space for students to learn and work outside of the traditional classrooms. By hosting some classes outdoors, we hope to inspire students to get involved with their environment and to enjoy what nature has to offer us. With the 2020 Sustainable Jersey for Schools Grant, we are now able to bring this plan to life and get started on building a new space for future students. We humbly thank the PSEG Foundation and Sustainable Jersey for Schools for giving West Essex the opportunity to further explore sustainability and open our first outdoor classroom. - Abigail Boggier, Student, West Essex Regional High School, West Essex Regional School District, Essex County
